Drawing on 40+ years of field collecting in both East and West Africa, the Ernie Wolfe Gallery specializes in juxtaposition exhibitions between the works of modern American, often Southern California based artists, and those of contemporary African painters and sculptors, as well as traditional tribal sculpture and furniture.

Francis

I was born with a gift as an artist. During my childhood I used to always draw in my exercise book while not paying attention to the teacher. So I was always caned, but I just laughed it off. My dream since childhood is that I be accepted as an artist, and by the grace fo God, here I am, proud for the gift and the talent God has given me.
— Francis in Extreme Canvas 2 (2012) by Ernie Wolfe III, pg. 89

Born 1964. Cape Coast’s very own king of the single image full two flour sack format movie poster, the big two-bagger. Actively painted movie posters only from the early to mid-late 1990s. Paints Kung Fu figures in near life-size renderings. Ripples clothes with the best in the tradition but tends to render skin with unusually smooth texture. Shares an independent airbrush-like stylistic affinity with the “Kumasi Four.” Seems to prefer Cape Coast blue and green aquatic colors as backgrounds. Capable of making multiple image posters but rarely does. Often outlines his figures with waves of arcing blue electrical current design. No need for clothing to lie flat on the bodies he paints. 3D camo in all its undulosity is a specialty. Since the millennium, and the subsequent demise of hand-painted movie posters in Ghana, he makes a living painting village scenes and coastal landscapes for both the local and tourist markets.
